WOODY SPECIES are typically available in tubeling containers which hold 12 to 14 cubic inches of media. Some shrubs are available in deep, narrow large plug containers holding 4.9 to 6.7 cubic inches of media.
Both of these small sizes are great for mass planting of plugs on stream banks and for adding diversity to wetland mitigation sites. The small plants spend their first year after installation building their root systems. During the second year they expand above ground.
Woody species are also available in trade gallons for situations where early top growth is needed or competition is especially fierce.
We grow most of our HERBACEOUS SPECIES as large plugs. The perfect size for wetlands, ponds and unstable shorelines, large plugs are low in cost and easy to transport and install. Large plug containers are narrow and deep. They hold 4.9 to 6.7 cubic inches of roots and media. Their narrowness makes them fast to plant, their depth makes them stay in place in erosion prone situations, and their ample root mass allows explosive growth after installation. Herbaceous species can also be grown in quarts, 4" pots, or trade gallons on contract.
Plants grown as large plugs or tubelings are removed from their containers and bagged in groups of 25 to 75 at the time of sale. This saves the installers the hassle of disposing of or returning pots and cuts clean up time. Shipping and delivery of our large plugs and tubelings is FREE for orders of at least 200 plants delivered to the coastal plains and piedmont regions of the Carolinas.
